"Communication is Key to Succeed"

Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Brookings School District and Limited English Proficient (LEP) program to insure that all LEP students exit the program with the knowledge of oral and written English communication skills as well as social skills to be productive in school and in the community.
LEP Rationale

Limited English Proficient (LEP) students are students with a home language background other than English and whose English language skills are not yet, well enough developed for them to be able to participate successfully in classrooms where all academic instruction is provided in English.

LEP Program

Limited English Proficient (LEP) program in the Brookings School District is a program that uses English as the instructional language for students to achieve English proficiency and academic mastery of subject matter content, so they may meet appropriate grade promotion and graduation requirements.  Students are exposed to a learning environment in which they actively participate.  Instruction is presented using meaningful and realistic context.  The outcome of this instructional process enable students to listen, speak, read, write, comprehend, and analyze in English.
